Creating Positive School Experience workshop at AUE
United Arab Emirates – Dubai 10th Feb: As part of its commitment to community services the Guidance and Counseling Center at the American University in the Emirates organized a workshop on Creating Positive School Experience, for the educators and counselors from different schools in UAE.
The main objective of the said workshop was to increase the awareness of the guidance counselors, teachers and principals regarding the increasing number of learning disabilities problems in school. It also aimed to enhance the educators’ skills in assessing learning disabilities and equipping them with proper intervention on how to create a positive school experience for the AUE students.
Prof. Muthanna Abdul Razzaq, AUE President welcomed all the participants and mentioned that AUE being the leading university in the region is committed to contribute to the advancement of educational process and promote academic excellence to the community. Furthermore, he emphasized that AUE is making excellent education available for all, even for those with disabilities. He pointed out that no one should be deprived to learn and dream as AUE believes in nothing is impossible.
Dr. Hussain Ali Masseeh, Social Expert/ Clinical psychologist of Community Development Authority facilitated the workshop. Dr. Masseeh said that learning disabilities is often neglected in the society. Many students pass their schools without being detected that they have learning disabilities.
He emphasized that is very important for educators to be equipped with proper skills to assess learning disabilities in earlier stage so the schools can give proper intervention and make learning a positive experience.
The workshop ended with lots of suggested tools to identify learning disability at the early stage to create positive experience at school for all students.
